HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth softball opened its series with Penn in grand fashion defeating the Quakers 11-2 in five innings. Dartmouth improves to 13-13 on the season and 6-4 in Ivy League play.
Despite the lopsided final score, it was Penn who struck first in the top of the third inning. The Quakers manufactured a run on two hits to take a 1-0 lead.
The Big Green answered in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead. Alanna Panu opened the inning with a walk and then moved to third on a bunt single by Faby Serna. After Serna stole second, Justice Malone gave Dartmouth the lead with a two-run single up the middle. Following a pitching change, Olivia Schramm tripled home Malone to make it a 3-1 Dartmouth lead. Three pitches later, first-year Marilyn Beauvais doubled to left field to bring home Schramm. Georgia Bilski singled home Beauvais on a 2-2 pitch to complete the five-run inning for the Big Green.
With one out in the top of the fourth Penn hit a solo home run to cut the Dartmouth lead to 5-2.
Once again in the bottom half of the frame, the Big Green answered back. Malone drew a two out walk and moved to second as Schramm was hit by a pitch. Four pitches later, Beauvais added to her big day with a two run double to left center to make it a 7-2 Big Green lead.
In the top of the fifth, Jensin Hall struckout the side in order, to bring the Big Green bats back to the plate.
Leila Hennessy opened the inning with a single, Ava Davis came into run for Hennessy. Following an out, Davis moved to second on a Lauren Ben-Ezra single with one out. Panu then drew a seven pitch walk to load the bases and force a Penn pitching change. With a new pitcher in the circle and the chance to end the game, Serna blasted a 1-0 pitch over the left center field wall to make it an 11-2 final score for Dartmouth.
Hall notched her seventh win of the season as she went five innings while allowing two runs on three hits. She struck out eight in the win; she now has 68 strikeouts on the season and a 2.73 ERA.
Both Serna and Beauvais had multi-hit games while seven players notched hits.
Dartmouth and Penn close out the three game series on Sunday, April 13 with a doubleheader starting at 10 AM at Dartmouth Softball Park.
