Big Green dig out of early hole, but the Bulldogs have an answer

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Trailing 4-0, the No. 20 Dartmouth men's lacrosse team responded to take a 7-6 lead, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half in downing the Big Green, 21-12 on Saturday. Colin McGill tied a career high with six goals while adding an assist for a season-high seven points.

Thomas Power also tallied seven points via two goals and five assists. Alex Jessey finished with two goals and an assist. McGill also caused two turnovers to lead the Big Green in that category.

Yale quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the game was three minutes old. The Big Green answered in a big way, with a goal from William Stahl followed by two straight from McGil to pull within 4-3 midway through the first quarter.

The Bulldogs responded with two straight before four consecutive Big Green goals gave them their first lead. It began with Jackson Monte and McGill scoring 10 seconds apart, at 2:20 and 2:10 of the first quarter. McGill recorded his fourth of the game at 12:42 of the second before Jessey finished his first at 6:04 to make it 7-6 in favor of Dartmouth.

Yale opened a 4-0 lead, but the Big Green have come back with a vengeance! Colin McGill is up to three goals and an assist already as Dartmouth is back within 6-5!

Yale answered with four in a row bridging the end of the second and beginning of the third quarters. Consecutive goals from Power and McGill at 6:25 and 5:57 of the third pulled the Big Green within 10-9, but that's as close as they would come.

The Bulldogs' offense exploded with two separate 5-0 runs over the remainder of the game, on the way to the 21012 final.

Final shots were 54-33 in favor of Yale, with the Bulldogs holding a 41-28 edge in groundballs. Dartmouth was 1-for-3 on the extra man while Yale didn't have a man-up opportunity. The Big Green had 16 turnovers compared to 13 from the Bulldogs.

Mason Morel made 13 saves (allowing 18 goals) before being replaced by Ryan Williamson, who had one (allowing three goals). Jared Paquette made nine stops for the Bulldogs. Spencer Reagan won 17-of-34 faceoffs for the Big Green with a career-high nine groundballs.

Dartmouth returns home next Saturday for Senior Day, as the Big Green host Brown at 1 p.m.
