ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Hockey Commissioners Association announced the winner and the finalists for the 2025 Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award. Dartmouth's Steven Townley was one of five finalists from across college hockey.
Townley closed out his four-year career with the Big Green in 2024-25 as he served as captain while playing in all 33 games this season for the Big Green.
On the ice, the Woodstock, Vt. native played in 119 career games while scoring 10 goals and adding 14 assists. He was a mainstay on the Dartmouth penalty kill while blocking 66 shots and winning 746 faceoffs in his career.
Off the ice, Townley has been a staple in the Dartmouth community. During his time in Hanover, he volunteered at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth on multiple occasions including with the annual Dartmouth toy drive and at the C.H.a.D Hero Marathon. He also gave back to the community by volunteering with local youth hockey teams and served as the team coordinator for the local hockey programs.
In 2024 he was named the Class of 1948 Male Student-Athlete of the Year by Dartmouth Athletics. Within the Dartmouth hockey program, he was awarded the Smoyer Award (Unsung Hero) in 2022-23 and the Manser Award (Most Improved) in 2021-22.
Townley will graduate this spring with a bachelor's degree in government.
