The Dartmouth Big Green competed in the second day of the Inter-collegiate Sailing Association Open Team Race National Championship Friday, posting a 3-3 overall record to remain in fourth place.
The Big Green concluded Round of 16 sailing with races against Roger Williams, St. Mary's. Charleston, Coast Guard, and Bowdoin.
Dartmouth suffered losses to the Roger Williams and St. Mary's but picked up wins over Coast Guard and Bowdoin. In both races, the Big Green earned first and second finishing positions to lead them to the victory.
Their 10-5 record in the Round of 16 allowed advanced the Big Green to the Round of 8 where the field was cut in half. Harvard, Roger Williams, Yale, Brown, Stanford, Tulane, and Boston College are the other seven teams to compete alongside Dartmouth in the Round of 8.
Competition in the Round of 8 began with races over Yale and Brown. Dartmouth suffered a loss to the Bulldogs but was able to earn the win over the Bears thanks to first, second, and sixth place finishing positions. The Big Green have a 1-1 record in the round ahead with five races to sail before the field gets cut in half again.
The Harvard Crimson lead the way with a 14-3 overall record, followed by the Yale Bulldogs who sit in second at 14-4. Roger Williams holds the third-place spot sitting at 13-5 followed by the Big Green and Brown Bears at 11-6.
Because Dartmouth beat Brown in the Round of 8, the Big Green hold on to the fourth-place spot.
Sailing in the ICSA Open Team Race National Championship will conclude Saturday. The Big Green will then shift their focus to the ICSA Women's Team Race National Championship. That championship is also hosted by Brown and will take place on Monday and Tuesday.
