On Wednesday, the Big Green continued sailing in the Inter-collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Semifinal, competing in 12 races to finish fifth overall and advance to Championship sailing, set to begin Thursday.
Â
Dartmouth kicked off the day with the fifth set of races, posting fourth in both the A and B Division races. It then earned 13th and eighth place finishing positions in the sixth races to hold a narrow lead over Boston College.
Â
Fifth, sixth, and seventh place finishing positions in the next three races pulled the Big Green within two points of Bowdoin, but two finishes outside the top ten held them in fifth place.
Â
A first place and fifth place finish in the final two A Division races briefly put the Big Green in fourth, before posting tenth in the final race of the day to secure fifth overall.
Â
Stanford won the western semifinal with 82 points followed by Yale (94), Bowdoin (143), and Boston College (149). The Georgetown Hoyas and Big Green finished knotted with 153 points, but Dartmouth owned the tie breaker to finish ahead of the Hoyas. College of Charleston, Tufts, and University of Miami round out the western semifinal qualifiers.
Â
In the eastern semifinal, Ivy League foes took the first two spots with the Harvard Crimson finishing first (123) and the Brown Bears finishing second (126). Navy, Tulane, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Rhode Island, MIT, George Washington and Hobart and William Smith Colleges round out the east's top nine and will now combine with Dartmouth and the rest of the west in Championship sailing.
