HANOVER, N.H.—On May 10th, Dartmouth Athletics and Recreation hosted an equipment surplus sale at Dartmouth's Thompson Arena for the Dartmouth and Upper Valley communities.
Dartmouth put thousands of items on sale including t-shirts, shorts, polos, sweatshirts, shoes, among many more articles of clothing for the Dartmouth community to purchase. At the end of the sale, the Big Green sold about 70% of available apparel.
Dartmouth Assistant Athletic Director of Equipment Operations Carissa Brizzi was determined to use the left-over apparel to help people in need. Brizzi contacted a non-profit organization that specializes in getting equipment to those in need. The organization sorts through all the extra equipment and distributes the equipment to young athletes around the world.
"Our job is to serve athletes and coaches and set them up for success, so being able to provide apparel, shoes, cleats, and gear to those outside of Dartmouth means a lot" Brizzi added.
Along with certain apparel and clothing, Dartmouth donated cleats and other footwear to allow young athletes to compete and learn to play sports at a young age.
"It's a feel-good moment to know that these items won't just go to waste and that they will give a kid a better experience playing a sport because they will have what they need."
