Field Hockey Defeats Maine In OT To Improve To 2-0

HANOVER, N.H.—For the first time since 2007, the Dartmouth field hockey team defeated Maine 2-1 in overtime to improve to 2-0 in 2025.
The Big Green took an early lead in the game as Ella Bowman took a penalty stroke that was awarded to the Big Green off a penalty corner. Bowman fired the ball into the bottom right corner of the cage to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.
Shots were 2-1 in favor of Dartmouth in the first quarter; the lone Maine shot on goal was turned away by Ava Carlson.
The second quarter saw Maine tie the game at one just over eight minutes into the quarter. Shots were 2-1 Maine in the second quarter as the teams were tied at one after 30 minutes of play.
Maine earned four corners in the third quarter but the Big Green held strong as Kylie McKinley took over in net for Dartmouth. The junior made three saves in the quarter to keep the game tied at one.
Both teams looked to break the tie in the fourth quarter but neither were successful. Maine outshot the Big Green 3-1 in the fourth, but McKinley turned away all three shots. The game went to overtime with score tied at one.
In overtime, each goalies made game saving saves to continue the overtime period. Just over eight minutes into overtime, the Big Green had back-to-back corners. On the second corner Olivia Galiotos trapped the insertion from Riley Dumigan and teed the ball up for Bowman. Bowman fired a low shot that deflected into the net to win it for the Big Green.
Bowman leads Dartmouth with three goals this season while both Galiotos and Dumigan notched their first assists of the season.
McKinley made seven saves as she notched her second win of the 2025 season. Carlson made one save in her second start of the season.
It is the first time since the 2011 season that Dartmouth has started a season 2-0. Dartmouth finished 2011 with a 5-2 Ivy League record and a 10-7 overall record.
The Big Green return to Chase Field on Sunday, Sept. 14 to take on #14 UMass at 1 PM.
