HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth field hockey team continues a stretch of tough competition this weekend, hosting Ivy League foe Yale on Friday for MVP Day before traveling to UMass Lowell on Sunday.
Last Time Out
Dartmouth showed real fight in its last outing, erasing a two-goal deficit in regulation at Quinnipiac on Oct. 11 before ultimately falling 3-2 in overtime — a sign of the resilience this team has built even during a tough three-match stretch.
Kylie McKinley has been outstanding in net all season, piling up 76 saves and turning in a team-high 12-save effort in a hard-fought match at then-No. 10 Princeton on Oct. 9.
Ella Bowman and
Ruby Walsh are tied for the team lead with eight points apiece, and
Riley Dumigan has been a steady playmaker with a team-high four assists, giving Dartmouth a solid offensive foundation heading into the weekend.
Scouting Yale
The Bulldogs are 8-2 overall and 2-2 in Ivy League play, having gone 3-2 over their last five — losses to Cornell and at Princeton sandwiched around wins over Monmouth, Columbia and, most recently, Temple on Oct. 11. Yale is outscoring opponents 28-10 on the season and hitting .189 as a team. Chiara Picciafuoco leads the attack with eight goals, six assists and a team-high 22 points, highlighted by a 10-point game against UAlbany back in September. Emma Ramsey has emerged as a second major weapon with five goals, five assists and 15 points, including two game-winning goals, while Issy Baileff adds five goals and 11 points. In goal, Amelie Schwarzkopf has started every match, going 8-2 with a 0.98 goals-against average, an .804 save percentage and three shutouts.
Scouting UMass Lowell
The River Hawks are 7-6 overall and 1-1 in America East play, coming off a 3-2 win over Sacred Heart on Oct. 11 that followed back-to-back one-goal losses to Providence and Vermont. UMass Lowell is averaging 2.23 goals per game and has out-shot its opponents 189-138 on the season. Audrey Carter leads the team with six goals, three assists, 15 points and a team-high three game-winning goals, while Alexa Guarneri (six goals, 12 points) and Alice van Hemelen (five goals, 12 points) round out a balanced attack. Florine Gerrits has set up much of the offense with a team-high six assists.
Players to Watch
Ella Bowman and
Ruby Walsh have shared the scoring load for Dartmouth all season, and a strong weekend from either could spark the offense against two quality opponents.
Kylie McKinley's play in net has been a bright spot even during the recent skid — her workload against Yale's potent attack and a UMass Lowell team that averages over 14 shots a game will be a key factor in both results.
