HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth volleyball team will finish their 5 game road stint this weekend as they visit Cornell on Friday before traveling to Columbia on Saturday.
Last Time Out
Dartmouth dropped a pair of road matches last week, falling in five sets at Brown on Oct. 2 before being swept in three tight sets at Yale on Oct. 3. The Big Green are 0-3 in Ivy League play but have been competitive in every match, with four of their five conference sets against Harvard, Brown and Yale decided by extra points. On the season, Dartmouth is hitting .242 as a team, a mark that outpaces every Ivy opponent it has faced so far.
Scouting Cornell
The Big Red are off to a 7-5 start and a perfect 3-0 in Ivy League play, having swept Columbia, Penn and Princeton in their last three matches. Cornell is hitting .212 as a team and has been one of the conference's most physical teams at the net, out-blocking opponents 132.0-85.5 on the season. Ava Bogan leads that effort with a team-high 82 total blocks to go along with 122 kills and a team-high 175.5 points, while Mackenzie Parsons (124 kills) and Jaida Sione (115 kills) round out a deep Cornell attack. Setter Mary Wolcott runs the offense at 7.88 assists per set, and libero Sara Pomar paces the defense with 144 digs.
Scouting Columbia
The Lions are 6-6 overall but, like Dartmouth, are still searching for their first Ivy win at 0-3, having dropped their last four matches to Cornell, Princeton and Penn. Columbia is hitting .217 as a team against a .222 mark allowed. Elena Maynulet leads the offense with 123 kills and a team-high 142.5 points, with Alexia Cornea (87 kills) and Avery Jones (65 kills) also factoring in. The Lions split setting duties between Clara Yu (212 assists, a team-high 25 aces) and Claire Mo (189 assists), and libero Delaney Seaman leads the defense with 146 digs. Danica Nordlicht anchors the block with 34 total blocks.
Players to Watch
Zori Brown and Riley Imamura have carried Dartmouth's offense all season, combining for 321 kills and well over 300 points between them. Elle McCreery has been the Big Green's most efficient hitter at a .353 clip and shares the team lead in blocking with Clementine Tebbe at 49 total blocks apiece. Setter Sophia Gagnepain continues to run the offense at better than five assists per set, and how Dartmouth's block handles Cornell's Bogan — one of the Ivy League's most productive two-way players — will be a key storyline on Friday.
