CHARLESTON, SC-- The Dartmouth equestrian team fell to the College of Charleston 6-4 on Sunday, bringing the team's record to 3-1 on the season.
In the first half, Kileigh Van Ness topped her opponent 84-79. "Kileigh's ride was her best of the year, and our three first-years held their own for their first road meet" said head coach Tenley Walsh.
In the second half, Dartmouth mounted a strong comeback, winning three of five flat contests. Camilla Jerng improved to 4-0 on the flat this season with her 89-84 win, while fellow first-year Grace Russo picked up her first career flat win, 80-72. Alexa Strauss not only earned a team point (91-88), but she turned in the highest flat score of the day enroute to receiving the meet's Most Outstanding Performer honor for that event.
"I'm going to remember Alexa's ride for a long time," said Walsh. "To seize today's opportunity and walk away with an MOP, I'm really proud of her. She let me know she was ready, and she was right."
The team will wrap up its regular season on Sunday, March 8 at Centenary College with the ECAC Conference tournament slated for March 20 and 21 in Charleston.
"We certainly aren't looking past Centenary, but we rode better here today than we did last year," said Walsh. "I'm really proud of everyone's effort today, and we'll be ready when we come back for the conference tournament."
