EAST LANSING, Mich. - This past weekend, the Dartmouth women's tennis tea, traveled to Michigan, facing Toledo in a neutral site match and Michigan State.
The Big Green posted 6-1 and 4-1 victories, moving to 6-3 on the season.
The weekend began with a match against Toledo, as Dartmouth cruised to a 6-1 victory.
In doubles play,
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore posted the first doubles win of the day, securing the 6-3 victory. With the win, Capuano earned her 50
th career doubles win with the Big Green.
At second singles,
Sam Grosjean and
Alexandra Orlins fell in a tiebreaker, losing to their opponents 7-6, 7-2 in the tiebreak.
Josephine Lombardi and
Elise Wong secured the doubles point with a tiebreak win. The pair won their tiebreak, 7-3, giving the Big Green the 1-0 match lead headed into singles play.
Orlins' third singles match was the first to conclude, she won the first set, 6-1, before being awarded the singles win when her opponent retired.
Lombardi's match was the next to finish, as she cruised to the 6-1, 6-3 victory.
At fourth singles,
Lauren Han made her first appearance of the weekend, falling to Toledo's Guru, 7-5, 6-4.
Grosjean earned her first weekend of the day at fifth singles. She won the first set, 7-5, before dropping the second set, 6-1. She bounced back in the third and final set, securing the point with the 6-3 victory.
Moore and Capuano's singles matches were the final ones to finish, as both earned their second wins of the day. Moore at second singles won the first set, 6-4, before Toledo's Barretto responded and won the middle set, 6-3. Moore came back to win the final set 6-2 to earn the victory.
Capuano won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-5. Her opponent won the middle set, 6-3, before the pair played into another tiebreaker in the third set. Capuano earned the 7-4 tiebreaker win to seal the victory and conclude the match.
Dartmouth returned to action on Saturday, taking on the host, Michigan State.
At doubles, Grosjean and Orlins rebounded from Saturday's doubles tiebreak loss, earning the 6-2 victory over their opponent.
Capuano and Moore continued to impress at first doubles, earning the 6-4 victory.
Lombardi and Wong's third doubles match went unfinished, as the Big Green secured the doubles points with the wins at the first two doubles positions.
Both Capuano and Moore moved to 4-0 on the weekend with their singles wins. At first singles, Capuano cruised to the 6-2, 6-1 victory to lead off singles play. Moore won her match 6-3, 6-0 at second singles.
Han's fifth singles match was the next to finish as she fell to her opponent, 6-1, 6-4.
Lombardi played at sixth singles, falling to her opponent in three sets. She won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-3, before Michigan State's Parkins Godwin came back to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-4 to earn the victory.
Grosjean's fourth singles match saw two tiebreakers. The sophomore lost the first set and tiebreaker 7-2 before coming back to win the middle set, also in the tiebreak, 7-5. Grosjean followed her second set victory with a 6-3 win in the final set to secure the victory.
Orlins' third singles match went unfinished, concluding in the third set. Orlins won the first set in a tiebreaker, 8-6, before dropping the middle set, 6-4. She was down 5-3 in the third set when the match was called.
The Big Green will return to action this weekend, welcoming Stony Brook and UMass to Boss Tennis Center. The match against the Seawolves is set for Saturday, February 28 at 11 a.m. Dartmouth will then play the Minutewomen on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. You can watch both matches
