ORLANDO, Fla.—Dartmouth softball opened the Charge on Classic at the University of Central Florida on Thursday with a doubleheader against the host UCF. Dartmouth fell 8-0 in the first game and 8-1 in the second game.
Game One at UCF (L, 8-0)
The Knights opened the scoring with a sac fly in the bottom of the first inning. The Big Green limited the damage and stranded three runners on base as Jensen Hall got a two out flyout to end the first inning.
In the top of the second, the Big Green got two runners on thanks to a walk by Faby Serna and a single from Scarlett Nagy with one out. The Big Green failed to push a run across as back-to-back flyouts ended the frame.
UCF scored four runs in the bottom of the second while notching four hits including back-to-back two out doubles.
Dartmouth could not respond as UCF added to its lead with a two run double in the bottom of the fourth.
Dartmouth got a runner on in the top of the fifth as it looked to extend the game, but a 4-6-3 double erased the runner and the game ended due to run rule.
Hall started in the circle and faced 15 batters before Anna Marie Fagen faced the final 11 batters of the game. Both pitchers recorded four flyouts.
Dartmouth drew seven walks with Lauren Ben-Ezra and Justice Malone each recording two.
Game Two at UCF (L, 8-1)
The Big Green got off a fast start in the second game of the twin bill as Malone singled up the middle with one out. After a flyout, the Big Green loaded the bases with back-to-back walks from Marilyn Beauvais and Olivia Schramm. Nagy earned a 3-2 count but flew out to center to end the inning.
UCF scored four runs in the bottom of the first on three hits to take a 4-0 lead.
Neither team scored again on the bottom of the third when UCF hit a solo homer and two-run homer to take a 7-0 lead.
The Big Green looked to chip away at the lead in the top of fourth. Beauvais and Schramm drew back-to-back no out walks to start the frame. After a flyout, Sydney Herrmann singled to load the bases. After a strikeout, Samantha Gresham drew a four pitch walk to force in a run. Dartmouth could not push across another run in the frame.
The Knights hit a two out solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to make it a seven-run game.
Dartmouth could not mount a comeback and fell 8-1 in the second game of the tournament.
