Softball Earns First Victory Of The Season Against Wagner

ORLANDO, Fla. –The Dartmouth softball team split the day 1-1 at the UCF Softball Complex, picking up its first win of the season against Wagner.
Game One - GWU (L, 6-5)
The Dartmouth Big Green had a seventh-inning rally but ultimately fell just short in a 6-5 loss to GWU. After three scoreless innings, George Washington broke through in the fourth. A walk and a hit-by-pitch set the table before a two-run sequence capitalized on a Dartmouth error. Cece Smith then delivered the biggest swing of the inning, launching a three-run home run to left center to give the Revolutionaries a 4-0 advantage.
Dartmouth chipped away in the fifth. Scarlet Niles led off with a double to left center and later scored on an RBI groundout from Ashley Frantz to cut the deficit to 4-1. GWU added insurance in the seventh, using a double from Paige Hayward and a two-run double by Emma Fales to extend the lead to 6-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Samantha Gresham reached on an error to spark the rally. Faby Serna ripped an RBI double to center, then Justice Malone followed with an RBI single to make it 6-3. After a walk and a pinch-hit single from Cwen Wilson plated another run, Sydney Herrmann drove in one more with a single down the left-field line to bring Dartmouth within 6-5. The Big Green loaded the bases and brought the tying run into scoring position, but a strikeout ended the comeback
Dartmouth outhit George Washington 11-7 in the contest, highlighted by three hits from Herrmann and multi-hit efforts from Serna. Malone added an RBI and a run scored, while Wilson delivered a key pinch-hit RBI in the seventh. Charley Maddox went the distance in the circle, striking out six across seven innings.
Game Two - Wagner (W, 6-0)
The Big Green secured a 6-0 victory over Wagner on Thursday afternoon at the UCF Softball Complex, riding a dominant complete-game performance from Anna Fagan.
Dartmouth struck first in the bottom of the second inning. After Marilyn Beauvais drew a walk and Samantha Gresham singled to right, Gresham swiped second, and Beauvais came home on a throwing error to open the scoring. Ashley Frantz followed with an RBI single up the middle to plate Gresham and give the Big Green a 2-0 lead.
The offense added on in the third. Justice Malone singled and later came around to score on Beauvais' RBI single to third, extending the advantage to 3-0. While the lineup produced steady pressure, Fagan controlled the game in the circle. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out two and walking three. Wagner threatened in multiple innings, including leaving runners on in the second and fifth, but Fagan was able to keep the Seahawks off the board.
Dartmouth broke the game open in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Malone delivered the decisive blow, a three-run double to center field that cleared the bases and pushed the lead to 6-0. Malone finished the day 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, a walk and a stolen base, leading the Big Green offensively. Ava Davis also reached base twice, highlighted by a triple in the first inning. The Big Green totaled seven hits and drew eight walks in the win, improving to 1-8 on the season. Wagner managed just three hits and left nine runners on base as Dartmouth's pitching and defense closed the shutout victory.
