ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Dartmouth softball team earned a dominant 9-0 run-rule victory over Wagner on Sunday morning at the UCF Softball Complex, powered by a 13-hit offensive outburst and a complete-game shutout from Charley Maddox.
The Big Green struck first in the third inning. Lauren Ben-Ezra ripped a triple to right center and came around to score on an RBI single from Justice Malone to give Dartmouth an early 1-0 lead. The offense exploded in the fourth inning.
After Faby Serna reached and later scored on Samantha Gresham's RBI double, Dartmouth put together a two-out rally. Ben-Ezra singled and Malone walked to load the bases before Olivia Schramm delivered the biggest hit of the game, a three-run triple to left field that pushed the lead to 5-0. Sydney Herrmann followed with an RBI single as the Big Green plated five runs in the frame to take full control.
Dartmouth added insurance in the fifth. Georgia Bilski drove in a run with a pinch-hit double, Ben-Ezra tallied another RBI triple, and Schramm capped the scoring with an RBI single to extend the lead to 9-0.
The Big Green lineup was fueled by Ben-Ezra's three-hit day, which included two triples and three runs scored. Schramm finished with four RBIs, while Gresham added two hits and two runs scored. Malone also recorded a multi-hit performance with an RBI and a stolen base.
Maddox was in complete control, tossing a five-inning shutout and allowing just two hits without issuing a walk. The right-hander faced 17 batters and kept Wagner off balance all morning to secure the run-rule win.
