LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—No. 9 Dartmouth men's hockey defeated Clarkson to advance to the ECAC Championship with a 4-0 win over the Golden Knights.
The Big Green opened the scoring at the 12:26 mark of the opening period. Tim Busconi played the puck down low to Alex Krause deep in the Clarkson zone. Krause held off a defender and shoveled the puck towards the net. Nathan Morin was in front of the net while fighting a defender he took the pass. The sophomore turned and fired a quick shot past the goalie for the first goal of the game. It was Morin's ninth goal of the year while Krause notched his seventh assist and Busconi's 10th assist of the season.
With just under two minutes left in the opening frame the Big Green made it a 2-0 game. The Big Green broke the puck out of their zone as CJ Foley dropped the puck to Colin Grable near the Dartmouth blue line. He passed the puck up to Jack Silverberg in the neutral zone. Silverberg dropped the puck back to Grable who sped through the zone. Grable gained the Clarkson zone and had space in the slot. Grable took the shot and picked the top left corner for his sixth goal of the year. Silverberg notched his eighth assist while it was Foley's 20th assist of the year.
Dartmouth took a 2-0 lead to the locker room despite Clarkson having a 15-9 shot advantage.
The second period did not see any goals as there were just 13 total shots on goal. Dartmouth had a 7-6 shot advantage in the middle stanza.
Neither team scored again until the 16:22 mark of the third period. Following an icing and Dartmouth timeout, the puck bounced around and found Silverberg's stick. Silverberg launched the puck the length of the ice into the empty net and scored his eighth goal of the season to make it 3-0.
The Big Green added a second empty goal at the 18:15 mark. Dartmouth was battling in their own zone and the puck came to the blueline. Krause fought through a defensemen and forced a turnover to clear the zone. He eyed down the empty net and hit it dead center for his fifth goal of the season.
Emmett Croteau was perfect in net for the Big Green, he made 31 saves as he picked up his 14th win of the season. In three playoff games this season, he has a .974 save percentage and a 0.67 goals against average. This season he has a 1.93 goals against and a .923 save percentage along with two shutouts.
Krause and Silverberg each tallied two points while four players tallied one point.
Dartmouth blocked 17 shots while Foley had a team high three blocks. Eric Charpentier, Nikita Nikora, and Jason Stafanek each blocked a pair of shots.
The Dartmouth penalty kill went 5-5 on the night while also killing off a five on three in the first period.
The win is Dartmouth's 22nd win of the season, the 22 wins is the most in program history.
Dartmouth advances to the ECAC Championship Game for the first time since the 1979-80 season. The Big Green take on the fourth seeded Princeton on Saturday, Mar. 21 at 5 PM at Herb Brooks Arena.
