HANOVER, N.H.—For the first time since 1980, the Dartmouth men's hockey team is heading to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA announced the 16 teams on Sunday, Mar. 22 on the NCAA Selection Show. The Big Green will be the two seed in the Worcester Regional and will faceoff with Wisconsin. The other two teams in the region are Michigan State and UConn.
Faceoff against the Badgers is set for Thursday, Mar. 26 at 5 PM at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
On Saturday, the Big Green secured their first ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship with a 2-1 win over Princeton in overtime to earn the automatic bid. Dartmouth last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 1980; it is the sixth time in program history that Dartmouth play in the NCAA Tournament.
Dartmouth is 23-7-4 this season and has the most wins in program history surpassing the previous record of 21 set in 1941-42 and tied in 1947-48.
The Big Green and Wisconsin have never faced each other in program history. The Badgers are the 12th overall seed in the NCAA Tournament while the Big Green finished sixth in the NPI rankings.
