BOSTON, Mass.—The Gridiron Club of New England announced that Dartmouth forward Hayden Stavroff has been named the recipient of the 74th Annual Walter Brown Award. Stavroff is the first Dartmouth player to win the award.
The nation's oldest nationally recognized college hockey honor, the Walter Brown Award was established in 1953 by the members of the 1933 Massachusetts Rangers, the first American team ever to win the World Championship Tournament. The award is given to the top American-Born Division I Hockey Player in New England.
The Columbus, Ohio had a historic season for Dartmouth as he led the country with 29 goals while being seventh in the country in points per game at 1.37. Stavroff was recently named ECAC Player of the Year, Ivy League Player of the Year, and a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
As a sophomore this season, Stavroff saw an 18 goal improvement and a seven assist increase from his first season in Hanover. Stavroff had 13 multipoint games this season including a five point game against Brown on Dec. 5 and a four point game against Yale on Dec. 6.
Stavroff had five game winning goals this season for the Big Green which is seventh in the country. He is also one of just six players in Division I to have two or more hat-tricks, he tallied a hat-trick against Stonehill on Nov. 1 and then four goals against Brown on Dec. 5.
Stavroff's 29 goals is the most in a single season since Ross Brownridge '80 scored 30 goals in 1980. Through 66 career games, Stavroff has 39 goals and 31 assists for 70 points including eight game winning goals.
The 2025-26 season was an historic season for the Big Green as they set a new program record with 23 wins. Dartmouth won its first ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship while returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1980.
