Charpentier, Cleaves, and Grable Named Alternate Captains
HANOVER, N.H.-- Koenig Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Men's Hockey, Reid Cashman announced the leadership group for the 2026-27 Dartmouth men's hockey season. CJ Foley will serve as captain while Eric Charpentier, Hank Cleaves, and Colin Grable will be alternate captains.
"CJ, Eric, Hank, and Colin represent our program both on and off the ice with pride and character. They are young men who earned the respect of their teammates and were elected to wear letters" Cashman said. Â Â
Foley enters his senior season as one of the top defensemen in both the ECAC and country. Through three seasons, the Hanover, Mass. native has skated in 100 career games while scoring 19 goals and adding 55 assists. His 74 career points are the most among ECAC defensemen while his 19 career goals will be the most among returning ECAC defensemen. In 2025-26 he finished fifth in the ECAC in points among defensemen as he had three goals and 21 assists. Foley has earned a laundry list of awards over the last three seasons, he is a three-time All-ECAC honoree, a three time All-Ivy honoree, a two time Hobey Baker Award nominee while being named the 2025 Ivy League Player of the Year, 2024 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, and 2024 ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year.
Charpentier will wear an 'A' for the second straight season after being an alternate captain in 2025-26. Charpentier was key member of the Dartmouth defense core that was sixth in the nation in scoring defense. He was also a key member of the Dartmouth penalty kill that ranked third in the NCAA. The Silver Spring, Md. native finished his junior season with four goals and nine assists in 35 games while being +27. He ranked third in the ECAC in plus/minus and seventh in the country. In 100 career games he has 11 career goals and 24 assists. He was an ECAC Hockey Defensive Defensemen of the Year Finalist in 2025-26.
Cleaves had a breakout season as a sophomore in 2025-26 as he scored 18 times while adding 22 assists, both career highs. He notched 10 multipoint games while having three games in which he tallied three or more points. His 40 points ranked him fourth in the ECAC while being 20th in the country. The Riverside, Conn. native finished the season with 396 faceoff wins which was second in the ECAC and 13th in the country, he averaged 11.31 wins per game which was also second in the ECAC. Following the season, he was named All-Ivy First Team along with being named All-ECAC Second Team. He was a Walter Brown Award semifinalist along with a Hobey Baker Award nominee in 2025-26.
Grable became a top defenseman in the ECAC as a sophomore in 2025-26. After tallying just one assist in 20 games as a first-year, he notched 20 points as a sophomore. He scored six times while adding 14 assists in 35 games. The Spring Lake, N.J. native was among the nation's leaders in plus/minus as he was third in the country and second in the ECAC at +30. He blocked 33 shots while also tallying three multipoint games. On Nov. 2 he scored his first career goal against Yale while also tallying an assist. In the postseason he scored once against Clarkson in the ECAC Semifinals while adding assists against Colgate and Wisconsin.

The Big Green are coming off the best season in program history as they won the programs first ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship along with a program best 23 wins. Dartmouth advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1980 and took on eventual NCAA National Runner Up Wisconsin. The Big Green finished sixth in the NPI while being ranked 10th in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey national polls following the season.
