HANOVER, N.H. – This week, HSBC Sevens announced its SVNS Player of the Year nominees, including Ariana Ramsey '22.
"It's an honor to see that my hard work is paying off in this way! I'm so grateful to be able to play and hopefully inspiring the people who are watching! Hard work does in fact pay off," Ramsey said about the nomination.
Ramsey, who plays for Team USA, made her World Rugby Sevens Series debut in 2023, scoring a try in her first match against Hong Kong. She also represented her country at both the 2020 and 2024 Olympics, setting up the bronze medal winning try in Paris two years ago.
Ramsey will compete next this weekend, as the USA Women's Eagles travel to Bordeaux for the HSBC SVNS World Championship Final. Last weekend, Ramsey and her team won silver in Valladolid.
"Ari has always been a special player with otherworldly speed. Already a two-time Olympian with a bronze medal to her name, she still found a way to elevate her game to an entirely different level this year, becoming widely regarded as one of the best 7s players in the world," Dartmouth Head Coach
Katie Dowty said. "Team USA relies on her to spark the attack and be one of its most reliable finishers. She has also become an absolute menace on defense, consistently winning turnovers at the breakdown and excelling in the game's grittiest, most unglamorous battles."
Dowty added; "Ari has entered truly rare air in the rugby world, but she hasn't reached her ceiling. I know she is determined to keep growing and help lead Team USA to gold in Los Angeles. We are incredibly proud of her, but all the credit belongs to Ari — her mindset, determination, and leadership have earned every accolade. We are her biggest fans, and we cannot wait to see what more she will do in the USA jersey!"
The winner of this year's Women's SVNS Player of the Year will be revealed this weekend HSBC SVNS World Championship Final in Bordeaux on Sunday, June 7th.
