Men's Soccer Leads at the Half, but Falls 2-1 at Boston College

NEWTON, Mass. — The Dartmouth men's soccer team led at the half but could not hold on against Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Boston College in its season opener on Friday, Aug. 28, at the Newton Soccer Complex, falling just short to the Eagles, 2-1.
The match was the Big Green's first under Connor Klekota, the Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer.
"I was proud of our group tonight. It was great to be back on the field for a regular season match, and credit to Boston College for coming back to win," said Klekota. "Two set piece goals against goes back to me, and we will work and continue to improve. Overall, I was very proud of our compete level and execution tonight, and feel this group is in the right spot to keep getting better each day. We'll keep working and we look forward to seeing you out at Burnham next Friday night."
Eidur Baldvinsson recorded his seventh career goal, and TJ Jeffreys finished with three saves.
The Big Green made a statement early, with Baldvinsson finding the bottom center of the net just 9:20 into the match to give Dartmouth a 1-0 advantage.
Boston College almost tied it in the 32nd minute with a shot on goal, and Douglas Arveskär came close to giving the Big Green a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute with a shot on goal that was saved near the bottom right of the net. The first half saw Dartmouth record three shots on goal to one by the Eagles, and take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Less than three minutes into the half, Hudson Kohler had a shot blocked. Jeffreys recorded a pair of impressive saves in the 50th and 52nd minutes to keep Dartmouth in front, but a goal in the 68th minute by Boston College tied the score at 1-1.
Eli Granda nearly put the Big Green back in front in the 74th minute, with a shot to the top right of the net that was saved. After a handball in the box in the 83rd minute, Boston College capitalized on a penalty kick and took a 2-1 advantage.
Another shot by Granda in the 84th minute that missed wide would have brought the match back to a stalemate, but it was the Eagles who held on for the win with a final score of 2-1.

The Big Green hosts Albany (0-1-0) in its home opener at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, at Burnham Field.
