NEWTON, Mass. – Dartmouth women's soccer fell to Boston College, 1-0 in an competitive battle on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. Goalkeeper Ola Goebel recorded a season-best of six saves in goal for the Big Green, as Stephanie Lathrop posted a team-best of five shots against the Eagles.
In the first half, the Big Green started their offensive attack, right from the whistle, as Frankie Valverde and Maeve Theobald had close shots on goal. The Eagles also had some opportunities on goal; but Goebel kept them off the board. Back and forth, both teams went end-to-end with momentum; however, Dartmouth and Boston College headed into halftime, scoreless.
Right from kickoff, the Eagles added pressure on the Big Green defense, with three shots on goal and two corner kicks, within the first three minutes of play. Boston College kept the momentum on their side, as they were knocking on the door for the first goal of the game and with 20 minutes left, the Eagles got on the board. From there, Dartmouth looked to make a comeback, with chances from Emmanuella Frimpomaa, Anna Leschly and Lathrop; but Boston College hung on to get the 1-0 victory.
The Big Green will travel to Arizona for the Cactus Classic, where they will face Arizona State University at 4:00 pm MST/6:00 pm ET on Thursday, Sept. 3. Then on Sunday, Sep. 6, they will face the University of Arizona at 1:00 pm MST/3:00 pm ET, with both games being played at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium in Tuscon, Arizona.
