Sailing's Weekend Highlighted by Regatta Win at the Charles Invite, Match Race New Englands Berth at the Pine Trophy

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth Sailing was in action at five regattas this past weekend, September 12-13, competing at the Charles Invite hosted by Bentley, the Pine Trophy hosted by Coast Guard, the Toni Deutsch '58 Trophy hosted by MIT, the Harry Anderson Jr. Trophy hosted by Yale, and the Harvard Invitational.

The weekend was headlined by a regatta win at the Charles Invite on Saturday. Brad Kirkpatrick and Sage Evans anchored A division while Finn Cairns and Abbie Deng swept B division outright, and as a team the Big Green posted just two finishes outside the top five across the full ten-race series. That consistency was enough to top a 15-team fleet that included Harvard, Brown, and URI for the regatta win.

Dartmouth also punched its ticket to the Match Race New Englands, the conference's match racing championship, with a strong showing at the Pine Trophy. Ryan Satterberg, Ben Sheppard, Will Eggena, and Blake Oberbauer sailed well in the J-70s at Coast Guard to qualify the Big Green for the event, marking the program's first appearance there since 2020.

At the Toni Deutsch '58 Trophy, hosted by MIT, the Big Green finished 12th of 17 teams after storms cut Sunday's racing short following just a single start. Alders Kulynych-Irvin and Sophie Menyhart were the highlight, sitting sixth in A division and leading that lone Sunday race outright before it was called off for weather.

Dartmouth also competed at the Harry Anderson Jr. Trophy hosted by Yale, finishing 9th of 17 in a regatta also shortened by Sunday storms after the Big Green worked through nine A-division and eight B-division races on Saturday in shifty 6-10 knot easterlies.

Rounding out the weekend, Dartmouth sailed to a third-place finish of six teams at the Harvard Invitational on Sunday, with the A, B, and C division sailors combining to finish behind only Brown and Tufts.

The Big Green will return to action next weekend, September 18-19, competing at the Open and Women's Singlehanded New England Championships, the Hatch Brown hosted by MIT, the Regis Trophy hosted by Harvard, and the Barnett Trophy hosted by Bowdoin. Results for all regattas can be found here.
