Field Hockey
vs Harvard
Amy Fowler will begin her 20th season as the head coach of the Dartmouth field hockey program in the fall of 2019.
In the 2014 season, Fowler became the program's all-time winningest coach as she won her 127th game on the Big Green's sideline, passing Marry Corrigan's 126 victories from 1975-92 that was the previous standard. On Oct. 19, 2018, the Big Green defeated Columbia, 2-1, in New York City and gave Fowler her 150th career win on the Dartmouth sideline.
In her career, Fowler has coached 23 players to first team All-Ivy honors with two All-Americans in the mix as well. Â
   Â
In 2004, Fowler became the third head coach in program history to record 50 career wins. Fowler led the Big Green to the ECAC tournament her first three seasons. Fowler has coached the program's only two national All-America selections during her tenure at Dartmouth — Kirsten Anderson '02 (third team) and Carolyn Steele '03 (second team).Â
From 2010 through 2012, Fowler led the team to a successful three-year run with the Big Green posting double-digit win totals in each season. It marked the first time since Fowler's first three years as head coach.
In 2012, Fowler guided Dartmouth to a 6-1 mark in Ivy League play, the most conference wins ever in a single season in program history. The lone loss came to eventual national champion Princeton as the Big Green laid claim to second place all alone for the first time since 2005.
The 2011 team was led by senior Kelly Hood, a player who would rewrite the record books during her career. One of the best players during Fowler's time in Hanover, Hood set new standards for goals in a season (18) and a career (58) in addition to owning all of the team's scoring records for points in a season (42), game (10) and career (134). For her play under Fowler in 2011, Hood was tabbed as the Ivy League's Offensive Player of the Year in its inaugural season.
   Â
Fowler's most successful season leading the Big Green was in 2001, where her team went 15-4 overall and finished second in the Ivy League with a 5-2 mark. Dartmouth would go on to win the ECAC tournament that year. Fowler also led the 2005 squad to a second-place in the Ivy League with another 5-2 record.Â
   Â
No stranger to Hanover, Fowler was an assistant at Dartmouth under Julie Dayton from 1994-95, during which time the Big Green compiled a 23-11 overall record. From 1996-99 Fowler assisted the James Madison University squad. She helped lead the Dukes to three straight second-place finishes in the Colonial Athletic Association and two trips to the NCAA tournament.
   Â
Fowler is actively involved with USA Field Hockey. She holds a Level II coaching certification, and has coached and presented in a number of US developmental programs during the past 25 years. She currently serves as the Region 3 Coaching Director for Futures, and has also coached at the US High-Performance Training program for the New England region.
   Â
She has maintained international exposure to the game by attending the Continental Course for High Level Field Hockey Coaching in Argentina (June 2005), in addition to completing an FIH National coaching course in Virginia Beach, Va. (July 2005).
Â
Fowler is a graduate of the Women's Coaches Academy and Dimension 2 program, both sponsored by the NCAA and the Winstar Foundation. In addition, Fowler was named president of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association in early 2005. She began her second term as president in January 2008.
   Â
A 1993 graduate of Iowa, she was a three-time (1990-92) All-America sweeper for the Hawkeyes. Fowler was honored as all-region and first team All-Big Ten three times (1990-92), plus was the 1992 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
   Â
Fowler played on four NCAA Tournament teams at Iowa (1989-92), including three Final Four squads (1989, 1990, 1992), and was a member of the Hawkeyes' 1992 NCAA runner-up team. Fowler was twice named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team (1990, 1992). She also won a gold medal at the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival held in Los Angeles, Calif.
   Â
A native of Voorhees, N.J., Fowler holds a bachelor's degree from Iowa in exercise science with an emphasis in athletic training. Amy lives in Grantham, New Hampshire, with her partner Emily and their daughters Payson, Evans and Sutton.
