Cosgrove joined the Dartmouth family in March of 2010 after a three-year stint as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Minnesota. With the Big Green, he will serve as a defensive assistant coach with his focus on the nickelbacks.
While at Minnesota, Cosgrove coached three players that earned all-conference honors, one of whom was selected in the 2007 NFL Draft (Dom Barber). Among his responsibilities were breaking down opponent film, coordinating the scout team offense, assisting in the coaching of the defensive secondary and recruiting. The Golden Gophers went from a 1-11 season to bowl berths each of Cosgrove’s final two years with the team. The defense, which ranked 114th nationally in takeaways in 2007, vaulted up to eighth in 2008.
Cosgrove also served one year (2006-07 school year) as an intern performing defensive quality control at the University of Nebraska, preparing defensive and special teams scouting reports, breaking down opponent film, evaluating prospective recruits and assisting in the coaching of the linebackers. The Cornhuskers, ranked 24th nationally in scoring defense, finished the season as the Big 12 North champions and a participant in the Cotton Bowl, while the incoming recruiting class was ranked 13th by Rivals.
A 2006 graduate of Arizona State with a degree in political science, Cosgrove first attended the University of Wisconsin as a wide receiver for one year before an injury cut his playing career short.
