Assistant Coach ? Second SeasonAs of May 11, 2009Entering her second season as an assistant coach for Dartmouth, former All-America Mary McVeigh ’03 has shown that you can, indeed, come home again. Just five years removed from her own playing career in Hanover, McVeigh brings the immeasurable quality of a shared experience with the student-athletes to the Big Green sidelines.
An All-America in 2002, she was a two-time first team All-Ivy honoree for the Big Green (1999-2002) and ranks in the top-10 in all six career and season scoring categories.
"I am thrilled to have Mary join our coaching staff," said head coach Angie Hind at the time of her hiring. "With her playing background, coaching experience and having personally excelled as a student-athlete at Dartmouth, I am excited for the impact she will have within our program."

In 2008, her first season as an assistant coach, Dartmouth posted an 8-6-4 record with four All-Ivy honorees. McVeigh played an instrumental role in the Big Green’s celebration of 30 years of women’s soccer.
Despite having her sophomore year cut short due to injury, McVeigh ranks fourth all-time in career scoring with 64 points on 24 goals and 16 assists. She holds the school record for assists in a season with nine (2001). McVeigh was twice a unanimous All-Ivy First Team pick and was a part of two Ivy League Championship teams and made the NCAA Tournament all four years. She served as team captain her senior year and was a recipient of each of Dartmouth's major team awards during her career.
Prior to her return to Dartmouth, McVeigh spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Lehigh University (2004-07), McVeigh helped the team to its first Patriot League Regular Season Championship in 2005. In her first season in Bethlehem, the 2004 squad made its first Patriot League Tournament appearance in 10 years after a second-place finish.
Following her collegiate career, McVeigh was the seventh pick overall in the first round of the 2003 Women's United Soccer Association. She started 16 of 21 games played as a rookie for the Philadelphia Charge in the spring and summer of 2004, the third and final year of the league's existence. The next summer, McVeigh played professionally in Iceland for IBV of Vestmannaeyjar in Iceland's Premier Division.
Off the field, McVeigh is one of the founders of Soccer Without Borders in Nicaragua, which brings education and sport opportunities to underprivileged youth, particularly girls. She has been joined by many former teammates and current players in this endeavor.
McVeigh graduated Cum Laude from Dartmouth in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. She earned her master's degree in sociology from Lehigh in 2007.
