The Dartmouth equestrian team hosted the ECAC North Conference Single Discipline Championship this past weekend with senior captain Claire Azar making the most of riding at her home arena by winning a spot on the All-Tournament team. Another senior was making his presence felt all over the baseball diamond. Justin Murray in six games over the past week played on both sides of the plate. Pitching and batting in the designated hitter spot he did it all.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Justin Murray, Sr., Charlotte, N.C., P/1B, Baseball
The first true two-way player for Dartmouth in over two decades, Murray hit and pitched at a high level over the six games during the past week for the Big Green baseball team. At the plate, the senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, hit .389 (7-for-18) with four doubles and four RBIs while scoring nine runs. While his best offensive game came against Bowdoin against whom he went 3-for-3 with three doubles, four runs and two RBIs, his best overall game came on Sunday when he twirled seven shutout innings while striking out a career-high 10 Brown batters in a 14-1 victory. He helped his own cause at the plate by reaching base three times on a single and two walks and scoring three runs. For the season, he is hitting .326 with a team-high eight doubles.
