In May of 2016, Dartmouth graduate and former assistant Brayton Osgood rejoined the staff of the ski team as the head coach of the men’s Nordic ski team.
Osgood guided the Big Green in 2023 with three of his skiers earning All-East honors, including John Steel Hagenbuch ’25, who not only was the EISA Men's Nordic Rookie of the Year, but also went on to become the first men’s Nordic skier at Dartmouth to be crowned to more than one All-America First Team in over 50 years. Jack Lange ’26 made the All-America second team in the 20K classic as well, giving the Green three All-America performances for the first time in five years.
He built on his successful 2023 season by coaching Hagenbuch to a national championship in the Men's 7.5K Freestyle. The national champion also took home the USCSA Men's Nordic National Skier of the Year and All-American honors. Lange also had another successful season, competing in the 20K classic at the NCAA Championship and earning second team All-America for his top ten finish on the second day of the National Championship.
In 2025, the Big Green had another dominant and successful season, thanks to Hagenbuch and Luke Allan. Either Hagenbuch or Allan won every EISA race, with Hagenbuch earning eight wins and Allan five. Success in the regular season also came to Aidan Jacobus who earned EISA Rookie of the Year Honors under Osgood. The accolades did not stop there, as Hagenbuch and Allan were each named a discipline leader for recording the most points throughout the regular season and Osgood took home EISA Coach of the Year.
At the national level, Osgood coached Hagenbuch to his second straight 7.5K National title, winning the classic race at Oak Hill. Hagenbuch also placed second in the 20K Freestyle to earn two First-Team All-America honors. Allan finished fourth in the 7.5K and sixth in the 20K to earn First and Second-Team All-America recognition while Cooper Camp placed ninth in the 7.5K to earn Second-Team All-America in his first NCAA Championship appearance. With another dominant season under his belt, Osgood was named the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association National Nordic Coach of the Year.
That 2018 squad featured Callan DeLine ’18 who made the All-America First Team in the 20K freestyle and Second Team in the 10K classical, while Luke Brown ’18 grabbed a second-team spot in the latter race to help Dartmouth post their best finish (third) at the NCAA Championship in seven years.
Osgood graduated cum laude from Dartmouth in 2003 with a degree in mathematics. While in Hanover, he was a four-year member of the ski team (1999-03), captain of the cross country ski team as a senior and twice named an NCAA All-American.
After graduation, Osgood became a professional cross country ski racer (2003-11), competing in the Under-23 World Championship (2004) and World Cup (2009). He was also a U.S. Ski Team European Continental Cup Trip team member (2007-10). During his time as a professional, he had six top-10 finishes at U.S. National Championships, three victories on the U.S. SuperTour and one podium finish.
From there, he returned to Dartmouth as the Nordic assistant, a position he held from September of 2011 until April of 2012. While serving as assistant, he facilitated development and coordinated in-season training sessions.
In his years since leaving Hanover, Osgood mostly stayed in the New England area, working as a Race Data manager with the New England Nordic Ski Association (2012-16) in Maine, a coach and head wax technician for the New England Junior National Ski Team (2015 and 2016) and as software engineer with AMP Sports (2008-13, 2014-2016). He also worked as a World Cup Wax Technician with the U.S. Ski Team (2015) in Europe.
Osgood graduated from Northeastern with a masters in accounting and business administration in 2013.
