MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Middlebury Carnival began on Friday with the 7.5k classic and giant slalom, as the Big Green look for their second straight EISA Championship and compete for a spot in the 2026 NCAA Championship.
The men's Nordic team swept the podium as the Big Green earned six total podiums to sit in first place through day one of competition.
Fresh off his first Olympic Games,
John Steel Hagenbuch led the men's Nordic team with a 20:08 finish in the 7.5k classic.
Aaron Power claimed second, tied for his best classic finish of the season, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:13.6.
Cooper Camp rounded out the podium, finishing third overall with a time of 21:17.
Dartmouth had three more finishers claim spots in the top-ten. First-years
Tory Hoffman and
Micah Bruner finished back-to-back, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Hoffman crossed the line in 21:29 to finish fifth while Bruner finished in 21:39.7, good for sixth.
Jack Lange rounded out the top ten for the Big Green, finishing eighth overall in 21:56.6.
The Big Green also got a win on the women's side, as
Ava Thurston skied to her fifth classic win of the year, finishing in 23:17.6, just over a minute faster than the second-place finisher.
Evie Walton also claimed a spot on the podium, finishing in 24:29, good for third overall.
Maeve Ingelfinger finished just off the podium in fourth, crossing the finish line in 24:39.3.
Amelia Tucker and
Caroline Menna rounded out the top ten for the Big Green. Tucker skied a 25:01.6 to finish sixth overall while Menna posted a 25:13.6, good for eighth overall.
Grace Zanni (26:28.8) also skied for the Big Green, finishing 25
th overall.
At Middlebury Snowbowl, the alpine team raced the giant slalom.
Emma Resnick led the way for the Big Green women, earning the last spot on the podium with a time of 2:00.78. Resnick's 55.14 first run time was just one one-hundredth of a second behind the field's leader.
Carly Elsinger and
Emma Reynolds also finished in the top-ten. Elsinger finished fifth overall with a time of 2:10.17 while Reynolds claimed ninth overall, posting a combined time of 2:01.90.
Riley Grosdidier finished tied for 11
th, posting a 2:02.16.
Zoe Zimmermann was the next Dartmouth finisher, claiming 17
th overall with a time of 2:02.71.
Sammi Trudeau rounded out the top-25, finishing in 2:03.69, good for 23
rd overall.
On the men's side,
Dan Gillis was the highest Dartmouth finisher, taking seventh overall with a time of 1:57.23.
Oscar Zimmer finished next, posting a combined time of 1:57.69, good for 13
th.
Sawyer Reed finished less than two tenths of a second behind Zimmer, claiming 15
th overall with a time of 1:57.85.
Calum Langmuir (2:00.19) also finished for the Big Green.
Philip Lundquist and
Heming Sola were the other Dartmouth skiers, but each did not finish a run.
At the conclusion of day one of the Middlebury Carnival, Dartmouth sits in first place with 477.5 total points. Both the Nordic men and women took home the most points on the day to help the Big Green sit in first.
The carnival will continue and an EISA Champion will be crowned Saturday, February 21 after the conclusion of the 20K freestyle and slalom. Results will be available on DartmouthSports.com.
