Mahon Breaks Meet Record in Final Day of Action at Dartmouth Relays

HANOVER, N.H. -- Anna Mahon, competing for Nike Athletic Club, broke her own meet record at the 35th annual Dartmouth Relays to highlight the third and final day of action.

Competing in the women's 20 lb. weight, Mahon (Orange, Conn.) had a throw of 75-9 3/4, surpassing her previous meet record of 72-2 1/4 set in 2003.

During her collegiate days, Mahon competed for the University of Vermont. "I've been coming to this meet for 12 years, and I consider it homecoming for me," said Mahon.

The final day of the meet featured open and collegiate competition. The host Dartmouth women's squad won the team title with 79 points, and Williams was second among 26 schools with 57 1/2 points.

On the men's side, the University of Illinois took top honors with 158 points. Dartmouth was second in the 26-school field with 66.

In the men's competition, senior Joe Marucheck was the runner-up in the long jump with 23-0 1/2 and the triple jump at 46-9.

Freshman Rob Kerris was third in the shot put at 48-6 and classmate Ian Reynolds was fourth in 48-4 3/4. Junior Brian McCarthy took third in the high jump, clearing 6-8.

In the 3,000 meters, Dartmouth earned seven points when junior Pat Ward (8:36.96), sophomore Dave Burnham (8:41.03) and sophomore Steve Mucchetti (8:42.13) were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

For the Dartmouth women, the 4 x 400 relay was second in 4:04.91, three seconds behind UMass-Lowell.

Big Green sophomore Nadine Parris won the triple jump with 36-8 1/2.

Senior Kate Adams cleared 11-6 1/4 and freshman Lilly Bertz topped 11-0 1/4 for third and fourth place, respectively, in the pole vault.

Sophomore Jamila Smith was fourth in the shot put with 41-5 and freshman Carmen Springer took fifth with 40-3 1/2.

The Dartmouth track and field teams are back in action on January 18, traveling to Yale for a three-way meet that includes Columbia.
