Dartmouth Men's Hockeys Thumps Union, 5-1

HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's hockey team poured it on the the final stanza of play, defeating Union 5-1 tonight in Thompson Arena. Five different goal scorers helped the Big Green improve to 9-10-1 overall and 7-5-1 in the ECAC Hockey League. Union falls to 11-11-5, 4-6-3 ECACHL.
Just 25 seconds into the first period of play
J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.) scored to give Dartmouth a quick, 1-0 lead.
Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) passed in front of the net to Sean Offers (St. Albert, Alta.) who's shot was blocked, Wyman was there for the rebound and put-back.
Grant Lewis (Upper St. Clair, Pa.) put Dartmouth ahead 2-0 with 16:36 left in the period. Mike Ouellette (Kamloops, B.C.) worked the puck around shooting to
David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.) at the right side of the goal. Jones pulled Union netminder Kris Mayotte out of the net on a fake, shooting instead to Lewis for the score.
With Dartmouth still holding a 2-0 advantage in the final period of play, Union broke up the shutout 6:34 into the final frame. Torren Delforte was credited with the goal as Mike Harr and Brendan Milnamow were given assists.
Dartmouth got two back with goals less than two minutes apart. With 7:05 to go
Ben Lovejoy (Orford, N.H.) stole the puck at the Dartmouth blueline passing back and forth with Offers before shooting to Jones for Dartmouth's fourth short-handed goal of the season.
Freshman
John Gibson (Okotoks, Alta.) picked up his first collegiate goal at 8:15.
Ryan Bellows (St. Catharines, Ont.) with his back to the net passed up to Gibson at the blueline for the strike.
Connor Shields (Edmonton, Alta.) also assisted.
The final goal came from Johnson at 16:18 with Eric Przepiorka (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and Lewis getting the helpers.
Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) narrowly missed his first collegiate shutout as he made 32 saves and improved to 8-6-1. Mayotte made 26 saves and falls to 11-10-4. Justin Mrazek came in to play in the third, making three saves.
The Big Green's penalty killing unit proved unstoppable as the Dutchmen went 0-for-9 on the extra man. Dartmouth, who is ranked third nationally in power plays, went 1-for-5.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. against Rensselaer.
