HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's volleyball team had its four game win streak snapped in a 3-0 loss to Yale today in Leede Arena. The Bulldogs are now 6-0 in the Ivy League and sit alone atop the standings. Dartmouth and Yale were two of the hottest teams in the Ancient Eight but it was the Bulldogs that proved to be the better team winning 30-26, 30-26 and 30-21.
For the match Yale outhit Dartmouth .307 to .196 with Alexis Cusey leading all players with 26 kills and a .538 hitting percentage. With the loss the Big Green falls to 9-7, 3-3 Ivy while Yale improves to 11-4, 6-0.
In Game One Dartmouth built up a 4-1 lead early and then went up to 8-4 and 10-4. The Big Green kept up the advantage for the next couple of points never allowing Yale closer than three. The Bulldogs came back slowing, tying the game at 18-all, eventually going ahead at 27-25 enroute to a 30-26 win.
Game Two was much the same as Dartmouth jumped out to an early lead, led by Nadine Parris (Plymouth, Minn.) who recorded several key points. Yale roared back and the two teams battled for every sideout. The Bulldogs finally took the lead for good at 17-13. Dartmouth's Amanda Marston (Austin, Texas) helped pull the BIg Green within one but Yale held on for the 30-26 win.
The third game was all Yale as the Bulldogs were in control from the very first serve. Untimely errors on the Big Green throughout the match proved fatal as Yale won the third and final game, 30-21.
Jess Thomas (Tampa, Fla.) and Parris led Dartmouth in kills with 11 while Katie HIrsch (Austin, Texas) was tops with 34 assists. Thomas led the Big Green in digs with 15 while Hirsch had 10, Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Marston each had 14.
The Big Green will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Cornell and Columbia. Game time on Friday against the Big Red will be 7:00 PM and then on Saturday against the Lions will be at 4:00 PM.
