HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green women's hockey team will host Ivy League rival Harvard on Friday, in a big-time ECAC contest at Thompson Arena.
The Crimson, who are currently ranked No. 6 in both national polls, are 12-2-1 overall with a 9-1-0 mark in the ECAC. Harvard and Dartmouth are presently tied for first place in the league, with Friday's game being for sole possession of the top spot.
Harvard has three of the top six point scorers in the nation wearing the Crimson. Senior Julie Chu leads the way with 31 points in 12 games, while both Jenny Brine and Sarah Vaillancourt have put up 59 points between the two. The Crimson also has four other skaters who have racked up at least 10 points on the season.
Like the Big Green, Harvard played both Providence and New Hampshire last weekend. The Crimson also came away with a win over Providence and a tie against the Wildcats to keep them in the national hunt. New Hampshire remains No. 2 in the national polls with a 14-2-3 record.
Dartmouth enters the game against Harvard with a 10-3-1 overall record. Attribute a majority of those wins to sophomore netminder
Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) who saved an impressive 61 shots in the last two games. 34 of those came against New Hampshire, which tied Clemis' career-high for saves in a game.
Offensively, the Big Green has five skaters who have reached double-digits in points. Both
Gillian Apps (Unionville, Ont.) and
Cherie Piper (Scarborough, Ont.) are tied for tops on the team with 20 points. Apps is currently on a six-game point streak. Freshman
Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) is just behind the two seniors with 19 points, while
Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.), who leads the team in assists with 15, and
Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) round out the top scorers.
Friday's game will be the sixth contest against a nationally ranked opponent for the Big Green. They are 2-2-1 in their first five games against a ranked squad. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. in Thompson Arena.
