Dartmouth Men's Hockey Rallies Past Bobcats, 5-4
Feb. 10, 2006
HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth's men's hockey team had five different goal scorers as the Big Green rallied from two different deficits to defeat Quinnipiac, 5-4 tonight in Thompson Arena. Sophomore
Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) tallied his second gamewinning goal of the season to keep Dartmouth in third place in the ECAC Hockey League.
The Big Green's
David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.) scored first off a power play goal, with the assists going to classmate
J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.) and junior
Tanner Glass (Craven, Sask.). Quinnipiac's Ben Nelson tied things by scoring late in the period to knot the game, 1-1, heading into the first intermission.
Quinnipiac (15-14-0, 6-11-0 ECACHL) then scored two goals in the second to open up a 3-1 lead. Joe Dumais scored both goals for the Bobcats, but the Big Green rallied. Junior
Mike Hartwick (Bedford, N.H.) made an end-to-end rush and found classmate
Dan Shribman (Swampscott, Mass.) wide open in front of the net to pull Dartmouth back within one, 3-2. The assist was one of three on the night for Hartwick.
Senior Mike Ouellette (Kamploops, B.C.) scored early in the third on an odd-man rush to tie the game, 3-3, but the Bobcats answered just over two minutes later to re-gain the lead, 4-3.
Glass knotted the game, 4-4, at 10:36 of the third by potting a rebound during a scramble in front of the net. Then senior Eric Przepiorka (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) flew down the right side of the Quinnipiac zone, where Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) redirected the cross-ice pass into the net for the deciding tally at 13:29 of the period.
In net, sophomore
Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) made 31 saves for the Big Green, while Bud Fisher stopped 27 shots for the Bobcats. Dartmouth went 1-for-4 with the man advantage while holding Quinnipiac scoreless on three power-play opportunities.
Dartmouth (12-10-2, 10-5-2 ECACHL) returns to action tomorrow afternoon for a matinee against Ivy League rival Princeton at 4:30 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by ESPNU.
