CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth women's volleyball team bounced back from a loss yesterday to down the University of Maine in three games. Game scores were 30-18, 30-25, 30-27. First-year player Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) led all players with 10 digs.
Behind a .361 hitting percentage in Game One the Big Green started things off quickly, downing Maine 30-18 to open the match. The Blackbears bounced back in Game Two but were unable to get past Dartmouth, falling 30-25. In the third and deciding game Maine again was able to keep it close, challenging at times but the Big Green came away with the 30-27 win.
The victory pulls Dartmouth even for the season at 4-4, 0-1 Ivy while Maine falls to 2-9.
MacGregor had 12 kills on the day with 21 attempts and zero errors for a .571 hitting percentage. The freshman also had her first double-double of the season with 10 digs. Jess Thomas (Tampa, Fla.), Katie Hirsch (Austin, Texas) and Sandy Barbut (Newport Beach, Calif.) also had double-digit digs while Hirsch also added a double-double with 33 assists.
"We played better today," said head coach Ann Marie Larese. "Megan had a great all-around game, she played smart. We did much better defensively, we were impatient at times but overall better. I feel real good about this win and I think it only helps us going into our matchups next week with New Hampshire and Harvard."
Dartmouth opens up the season at home on Tuesday with a match against intra-state rival UNH at 7:00 pm and then takes on Harvard on Friday at 7:00 on the first day of the Dartmouth Invitational.
