HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's volleyball dropped a hard-fought spirited match to in-state rival, New Hampshire on Tuesday in Leede Arena. The Wildcats won the match in three games. UNH racked up 19 total blocks on the evening while hitting .257. With the loss Dartmouth drops to 4-5 while UNH improves to 4-10.
In the first game of the evening New Hampshire jumed out to a quick 7-0 lead before a Dartmouth timeout and Sandy Barbut (Newport Beach, Calif.) serving brought the Big Green within five at 14-9. Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) served five straight points for Dartmouth to pull to 23-28 but New Hampshire prevailed to win 30-23.
In Game Two neither side was able to go up by more than three points. Katie Hirsch (Austin, Texas) gave Dartmouth the lead with the Big Green getting the next eight points. Hirsch again allowed Dartmouth to pull ahead slightly at 22-18 but UNH tied things at 23-all. Dartmouth came back and the two teams battled back and forth with the Wildcats winning 30-27.
The third and final game was much like the second as the two teams played point-for-point. Freshman MacGregor served up three points eary to give Dartmouth a small 12-9 lead. Amanda Marston (Austin, Texas) then helped the Big Green to go up 15-11. With Dartmouth up by four, UNH tied the game at 17-17 and pulled ahead by two. Jess Thomas (Tampa, Fla.) tied the game for Dartmouth but was unable to go ahead as New Hampshire won 31-29.
Nadine Parris (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Big Green with 14 kills while MacGregor was second with 11. Hirsch and Parris led Dartmouth in hitting with .308 and .417, respectively. Barbut and Marston led the team with 11 digs.
Dartmouth will be back in action on Friday, hosting the Dartmouth Invitational. The Big Green will matchup with Ivy rival, Harvard in a 7:00 pm game before taking on NJIT and Robert Morris on Saturday.
