Princeton, N.J. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team used a full team effort to defeat Ivy League foe Princeton, 1-0 this afternoon. The Big Green improved to 6-3-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in league play while the Tigers dropped to 4-4-1 (0-2 Ivy).
“I was very happy with the way we played today,” noted Head Coach Angie Hind. “We started the game well and held control throughout. It's a huge win for us to be
2-0 in the league and I was pleased with the way we played defensively.”
Dartmouth started the game strong, applying early pressure to the Tigers. The fourth shot of the half proved to be the charm though, as senior Emily Tracy (Belfair, Wash.) scored her first goal of the season in the 39th minute. Rookie Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) beat the defense on the right side and crossed the ball into the box, where Tracy managed to hook it over the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead that the Big Green would not relinquish.
The Tigers had their chances in the second half, hitting the crossbar once and taking three corner kicks, but yet another solid defensive performance carried the Big Green to victory.
Junior goalkeeper Amanda Webb (Danvers, Mass.) anchored the defense with three saves, posting her fifth shutout of the season. Webb has improved her goals against average to a paltry 0.63 and her save percentage to .806.
Tracy led the Big Green with three shots on the day along with her game-winner. “I was happy that Emily was one of our best players in a strong team performance today,” noted Hind.
The Dartmouth women are looking forward to a three-game homestand, starting Sunday Oct. 8 at 12:00 p.m. when it hosts Yale.
