HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's hockey team and Yale University scrimmaged on Sunday afternoon in Thompson Arena. The scrimmage capped off the Big Green's exhibition season as Dartmouth opens up the 2007-08 season on Sunday, Oct. 26 at the University of Vermont. The Bulldogs took a 6-3 victory today as the scrimmage was the first for Yale this year.
"This was a good chance to try different things," said head coach Bob Gaudet. "I'm not looking at the score or anything because we had lots of different matchups, we had both backup goalies play, we used lots of combinations. This was a good opportunity for both squads to get their feet wet as we both started practicing at the same time.
The Bulldogs started the scoring off with two goals in the first period. Connor Shields (Edmonton, Alta.) notched his second goal of the weekend at 13:56 to cut the lead to one with Rob Pritchard (Burnaby, B.C.) and Jon Grecu (Calgary, Alta.) assisting. Yale ended the period with another goal as junior Dan Goulding (Toronto, Ont.)
in net for Dartmouth recorded 13 saves.
Freshman defenseman Dan Markowitz (Jericho, N.Y.) recorded a goal for Dartmouth early in the second period as Grecu picked up the assist. Yale scored two more as Goulding and Joe Grossman (Foxboro, Mass.) combined for four saves in net for the Big Green.
A Josh Gillam (Peterborough, Ont.) strike sandwiched by two more Bulldog goals were all the scoring for the rest of the game. Kevin McCarthy (Stoneham, Mass.) earned an assist for Dartmouth. Grossman finished the game as the Big Green's goalie recording 10 total saves.
The Bulldogs also used all three of their goalies with Ryan Rondeau starting the game with five saves, Billy Blase played the second period with nine saves with starter Alec Richards playing the third period earning six saves.
Chris Cahill, Blair Yaworski, Greg Beller, Michael Karwoski and Jimmy Martin were all goal scorers for Yale.
