CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard broke a 1-1 tie late in the first half and added another score midway through the second as the Crimson defeated Dartmouth, 3-1, in Ivy League action on Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson (8-8, 4-2 Ivy) got on the board first, 6:45 into the game as Maggie McVeigh controlled a loose ball in the circle and drove it past senior netminder Ashley Heist (Byrn Mawr, Pa.) to give Harvard the 1-0 lead.
With 7:33 left in half, Dartmouth junior Ashley Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) netted her sixth of the season to tie the score at 1-1. She received a pass from sophomore Leigh Rorick (Toledo, Ohio) and fired a low shot to the left and past Harvard goaltender Kylie Stone. The Crimson went back on top at 2-1 late in the first half as Chloe Keating scored from the left on a penalty corner.
Harvard added its third score with 22:11 left in the game when Kayla Romanelli tipped in a pass from McVeigh inside the left post put the Crimson up by two scores at 3-1.
The Crimson had a 15-8 advantage in shots and posted seven penalty corners to Dartmouth's single corner.
Heist fell to 1-2 on the season, making seven saves for the Big Green (5-10, 1-5 Ivy). Stone got the win for Harvard, pushing aside four shots in net.
Dartmouth will make its final road stop this season as the Big Green visits Holy Cross tomorrow for a 2 p.m face-off with the Crusaders.
