The Dartmouth men's basketball team got 15
points from senior Johnathan Ball, but fell behind early and couldn't recover as
the Big Green fell to Siena, 89-54, on Monday
afternoon at the Times
Union Center.
For Siena
(7-4), Tay Fisher had a career-high 23 points, including 6-of-11 from beyond
the arc. Ryan Rossiter pulled down a career-high 10 boards, while Edwin Ubiles
poured in 13 points of his own.
For Dartmouth (5-7), senior
Johnathan Ball (Memphis, Tenn.)
posted a team-high 15 points, while junior Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.)added
12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Marlon Sanders (Cleveland, Ohio)
equaled Barnett with 12 points.
Siena
opened the game with a 10-0 run over the first five minutes of play. Ubiles and
Kenny Hasbrouck led the way with four points apiece. Dartmouth came out cold, missing its first
five shots of the contest.
The Saints continued to hit from the outside with Fisher
sinking his first two 3-pointers to increase the lead to 18-2, after sophomore Elgin
Fitzgerald (Colorado Springs,
Colo.) got the Big Green on the
board with 14:30 left in the first half. Ball added back-to-back hoops to cut
the lead to 18-6 with 11:33 remaining.
Dartmouth chipped away at the
lead and cut it to 25-14 on baskets by sophomore Robby Pride (Denver,
Colo.) and freshman Ronnie Dixon (Danville, Ill.).
Siena, however,
hit two shots from beyond the arc to push the lead back to 28-14 at the 7:30
mark.
The Saints opened it up once again with a 13-2 run over the
next six minutes to earn their largest lead of the half at 41-18. Sanders would
help the Big Green slice the lead to 45-26 going into the half with four points
over the final two minutes.
Ball was the top scorer for Dartmouth with eight points in the opening
half, while Barnett had four points and seven boards and Sanders added six
points.
Fisher led Siena
in the opening half, sinking four trays and posting 15 points in the half.
Hasbrouck was a force down low with nine points and Clarence Jackson had seven
points.
The Saints shot 56 percent from the field in the half,
including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and committed only six turnovers. Dartmouth shot 39 percent
and was 0-of-7 on 3-pointers and turned the ball over 11 times.
In the second half, Siena
started where they left off as Fisher hit a 3-pointer on the first possession
of the half to make it 48-26.
The Big Green matched the Saints throughout the first eight
minutes, but could not bite into the lead. Ubiles led Siena over the eight
minutes with seven consecutive points, while Ball poured in seven points for
Dartmouth as the Saints had a 67-41 lead with 11:20 remaining in the half.
Following a baseline jumper from DeVon Mosley (Mesquite Texas), Siena opened up a 70-43 advantage with 10:06 left on a
three-point play by Jackson.
The Saints added to the lead with a short 8-3 run and with 7:17 remaining Siena was on top, 78-46.
Siena
closed out the game with a 9-2 run and the Saints took the 89-54 victory from Dartmouth.
The Big Green will be traveling to Harvard for its fourth straight road contest as Dartmouth opens Ivy League competition at the Crimson on Saturday with the tip coming at 2 p.m.
