ORLANDO, Fla. – The Dartmouth softball team picked up two more wins today over Central Connecticut during the Big Green's Spring Trip. The games were played at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex. Game scores were 3-2 and 1-0. Yesterday in the last day of the Speedline Invitational held at the University of South Florida, the Big Green lost to George Mason, 4-2 in bracket play. The wins today give Dartmouth a 4-7 record.
In the first game against CCSU the Blue Devils jumped on the board first with two runs but the Big Green answered with three in the top of the third inning. Singles by Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y.), Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) and Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) loaded the bases as Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) singled to bring the first run across. J.J. Wright (Colleyville, Texas) came up to do the same thing as Kelly Fry (Marietta, Ga.) then hit into a fielders choice for the third run of the inning.
Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) picked up her third win of the season, striking out three in the victory. Parker, Costello and Sarah Bankoff (Lynnfield, Mass.) all went 2-for-2.
In Game Two, Angela Megaw (Bomoseen, Vt.) took command from the rubber leading Dartmouth to a 1-0 win and the sweep. Megaw went the complete game, striking out eight and allowing just two hits.
Dartmouth scored its run in the bottom of the fourth. Katie Chifcian (Fullerton, Calif.) singled to reach first and then stole second base. Yee sacrificed Chifcian to third before Parker hit into a fielders choice with Chifcian scoring.
Against George Mason, the Patriots scored two runs in the first and two in the third before the Big Green was able to plate two in the top of the fifth. Wright singled on a fielders choice before Chifcian put runners at first and second with her single. Yee walked to load the bases with Gleason knocking a two-RBI single. Chifcian and Wright both had two hits in the game as Chifician was 2-for-4 and Wright was 2-for-3.
Dartmouth continues play in Orlando with a doubleheader on Tuesday against Central Florida at 3:00 pm.
