HANOVER, N.H. ? The Dartmouth softball team took two more wins from divisional foe Yale today at Sachem Field. The Big Green won the first game, 6-4 while taking the second, 8-0, in five innings.
The wins improve Dartmouth to 14-21 overall, 10-6 in the Ivy League while Yale falls to 18-18, 3-13 Ivy. The Big Green remains a game back from Harvard with the two teams meeting next weekend to decide the Ivy League's Northern Division Champion.
In the first game of the day Dartmouth pitcher
Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) used a complete game through five innings to help her team to a 6-4 win. Aracellis Torres gave Yale its first hit in the top of the fifth while a grand slam home run by Katie Edwards gave the Bulldogs all their runs.
The Big Green scored runs in the first, third and fourth on seven hits.
Kelly Fry (Marietta, Ga.) singled up the middle to plate one run in the opening frame before hitting her second homerun of the weekend in the second inning to give Dartmouth a 3-0 lead. In the fourth
Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) doubled up the middle with
Katie Chifcian (Fullerton, Calif.) reaching on an error, moving Clarkson to third. After a wild pitch moved Chifcian over and scored Clarkson,
Sarah Bankoff (Lynnfield, Mass.) doubled scoring one.
Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) singled to score Bankoff and give Dartmouth a 6-0 lead.
Trudeau held on to keep anymore Bulldog runs from scoring, giving the sophomore her eighth win of the season. She struck out seven while allowing no walks. Fry was 2-for-2 while Clarkson was 2-for-3 and Autin was 2-for-4.
In the nightcap Dartmouth used a six-run third inning to win, 8-0 in five innings. Autin started things off with a leadoff single in the first inning. After a sacrifice bunt by
Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) moved Autin over
Ashley Gleason (Salinas, Calif.) homered to left center to score two.
In the third Autin reached on an error and advanced to second on the play. Yee singled on a sacrifice bunt to put runners at the corners. After Yee stole second a groundout by Gleason brought Autin around and moved Yee to third. Four straight singles scored three before
J.J. Wright (Colleyville, Texas) belted a double down the left field line to add two more runs for the 8-0 final.
Angela Megaw (Bomoseen, Vt.) pitched a two-out shutout for her sixth win of the season. She struck out four while allowing no walks.
Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) went 3-for-3 with one run while Autin, Yee, Gleason, Fry, Clarkson, Chifcian and Wright all had hits.
Dartmouth will square off with Harvard next weekend for two days of doubleheaders. On Saturday the Big Green travels to Cambridge while on Sunday Harvard comes to Sachem Field. Game times for both days will be 2:00 pm.
