HANOVER, N.H. -
Dean Christian, a veteran assistant men's basketball coach with stints at Southern Methodist and the U.S. Air Force Academy, has joined Coach
Terry Dunn's men's basketball staff at Dartmouth.
From 2004-06, Christian worked for the Mustang program, and his responsibilities included on-campus recruiting, individual player workouts, scouting and player development on the court and in the classroom.
Christian also had a long and impressive affiliation with the Air Force Academy, from where he earned a bachelor of science degree in 1982. In 1994, he completed a master of arts in athletics administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
From 1992-2000, Christian was an assistant coach and chief intercollegiate program manager/instructor at USAFA. After serving as a detachment commander in South Korea from 2000-2001, he became the head basketball coach and assistant athletic director at USAFA Preparatory School from 2001-2003. In 2004, he was promoted to athletic director. In three seasons at the helm, he led the squad to a 71-28 record, including a 31-3 mark in 2003-04 - the best record in school history.
Five of his former players were members of the Air Force Academy's record-setting 22-7 team in 2003-04 as the Falcons reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in 42 years.
Prior to his time at USAFA Preparatory School, Christian was an assistant coach for the Air Force Academy for four seasons under former Dartmouth head coach Reggie Minton. Christian also has coached numerous Armed Forces teams and was an assistant with the Sacramento Kings summer pro-am squad.
Christian replaces
Tommy Deffebaugh, who left Dartmouth to become an assistant coach for the Tennessee Tech men's basketball program.
