HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth field hockey team took an early 1-0 lead, but Boston University scored five times in the second half to defeat the Big Green, 8-3, on Sunday afternoon at Scully Fahey Field.
Freshman Claire Byrne (Rye, N.Y.) put Dartmouth on top 1-0, 1:38 into the contest for her first collegiate goal. Byrne recieved a pass from the right side, beat the defender and tucked it inside the right post for the score. The Terriers answers ten minutes later as Pam Spuehler tallied one of her two goals on the afternoon in the 12th minute.
Senior Lizzie Bildner (Manchester, Mass.) got the lead back for Dartmouth on a nice tip in off of a drive from junior Ashley Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) from the top of the circle. Boston University came right back with two goals to take a 3-2 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Spuehler added to her career day with her second of the game, four minutes into the half and assisted on two more to put the Terriers on top 6-2 with 27 minutes remaining in the contest.
Dartmouth cut the lead to 6-3 as Hines fired a shot from the top of the circle that found its way through traffic and into the net. Boston University would tally two more as Holly Wiles tallied her second of the game with ten minutes remaining.
Junior goaltender Jordan Sedlacek (Golden, Colo.) tied her season-high with 10 saves, following her 10-save performance against Princeton on Saturday.
Dartmouth will have two weeks off from competition before traveling to Penn to face the Quakers in an important Ivy League matchup at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 29 in Philadephia.
