NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Dartmouth women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought Ivy League match to Yale on Friday night. The Bulldogs won the three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-18.
The loss drops the Big Green to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in the league while Yale improved to 9-3, 3-0.
"I am really proud of our effort tonight," said head coach Ann Marie Larese. " We put some good plays together against a very versatile team as our defense really kept us in the game. The kids had a lot of chemistry tonight and I felt for us to put together that many points against this team was good for us."
In the first set of the match Dartmouth reeled off three straight points, cruising to a 7-2 lead before Yale steadily crawled back into it. The Big Green held the lead until late in the set when the Bulldogs strung together five of the final six points to take a 25-21 win.
The second set had Yale jumping out to the early lead before the Big Green tied the contest seven times. The two were at 12 before the Bulldogs went ahead by as much as four at 19-15. enroute to a 25-21 victory.
The third and final set was again point-for-point early on as Dartmouth was able to snag the lead several times. Yale grabbed the lead at 10-9 and went up by five before eventually winning, 25-18.
Morgan Covington (Katy, Texas) and Madeline Baird (Austin, Texas) each had 10 kills as Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas) was the top setter with 26. Four Big Green players were in double-figures in digs, led by Amber Bryant (Libertyville, Ill.) with 12. Dartmouth outblocked the much bigger Yale squad, 10-4 as Covington brought down three solo blocks and assisted on three.
The Big Green continues on the road with a 4:00 pm league matchup with Brown on Saturday.
