PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Dartmouth women's volleyball team dropped a three-set Ivy League
match to Penn on Friday evening. Despite keeping each set close the
Quakers held on for the win. Game scores were 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21. The loss drops the Big Green to 6-11, 2-5 Ivy while Penn improves to 7-11, 3-3.
An early back-and-forth set began the match for the two sides before Penn slowly pulled ahead and grabbed a 10-5 lead. The Big Green pulled within two after a few Quaker errors and kills by Morgan Covington (Katy, Texas) and Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas). Penn did not allow Dartmouth to get any closers as the Quakers rolled on to a 25-21 victory.
The Big Green turned things around in the second set, taking an early 5-1 lead forcing the home team to take a timeout. Dartmouth continued to hold the lead until the Quakers began to creep back into it, tying the set at 9-9 before taking over the lead. Penn never allowed the Big Green to get much closer than three points as the Quakers took the second set, 25-20.
Like the second contest, Dartmouth went ahead early, going up 6-4. The Big Green continued to hold at least a two-point lead before Penn tied the game at 10. The two traded the lead for the next couple of points before the Quakers went up by four enroute to a 25-21 win.
Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) led the team in hitting with 10 kills while two others were in double-figures for digs. Madeline Baird (Austin, Texas) chipped in 10 digs while Amber Bryant (Libertyville, Ill.) had 13.
Dartmouth will be back in action tomorrow, traveling to Princeton for a 4:00 pm match.
