WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Dartmouth women's golf team finished ninth out of the 17 teams participating in the ECAC Champinoships, hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Sophomore Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.) once again posted the same score, leading the squad at 18-over par (80-82=162).
Taking home the team title by a comfortable 16 strokes was Princeton at 23-over par (309-290=599). No team was within 13 strokes of the Tigers in the final round alone. Princeton also had the individual medalist honors as Susannah Aboff shot the best score of the day with a 68 (-4) to complete the tournament at three-under par (73-68=141), five strokes in the lead.
While Gulemi and Quirk tied for 36th, senior Tory Sheppard (Fishers, Ind.) and freshman Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) were just one stroke behind the duo at 19-over. Smith also had an 82 (+10) on Sunday, while Sheppard shot an 83 (+11). Senior Lauren Strickler (Akron, Ohio) recovered from an opening-round 85 to shoot the best score of the day for the Big Green with an 80 (+8).
The team will be back in action once more this fall in three weeks at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Oct. 26-27.
