HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's volleyball team could not overcome a powerful Princeton squad on Friday night as the Tigers took a 3-0 Ivy League victory over the Big Green. Princeton hit over .300 in sets two and three and had three players in double-figures for kills. Game scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-23.
The Big Green jumped out to an early lead in the first set going out 8-1 before the Tigers began scratching their way back into the contest. Princeton took the next six points before Dartmouth burned a timeout. The Big Green scored the next three but had an attacking error that tied the set at 13 before Parker Henritze's kill gave the visitors the lead enroute to the 25-19 win.
In Set Two Dartmouth again jumped out quickly going up, 8-2. A huge Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) kill gave the home team a 9-4 lead before Princeton again stormed back and closed in on the Big Green's lead, finally tying the set at 11. The two sides traded the lead for the next couple of points before the Tigers went up by two and forced the Big Green to take a timeout. Another Dartmouth timeout at 21-14 allowed the Big Green to regroup and score the next six points but Princeton never relinquished the lead enroute to a 25-18 victory.
The Tigers had their first lead of the match in Set Three, going up by five. Dartmouth got to within one at 9-10 off a kill by Kelsey Johnson (Carlsbad, Calif.) and a blocking error on Princeton. A setting error on the the Tigers tied the contest at 10 before retaking the lead. A Madeline Baird (Austin, Texas) kill tied the contest again but the visitors wouldn't go down easily. Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) allowed her team to get to within one after a kill as Morgan Covington (Katy, Texas) killed the next point to tie things up at 22-all as Covington and Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas) helped their team take a 23-22 lead. Unfortunately the Tigers proved to be strong on the next as two kills and a block by Lindsey Ensign and Bailey Robinson gave Princeton the victory.
The Tigers Ensign, Sheena Donahue and Henritze all had double-figure kills as Bailey Robinson was tops for both sides with 43 sets. For the Big Green, Houston had 22 assists as Amber Bryant (Libertyville, ill.) was the only player for Dartmouth with double-figure digs with 17.
Dartmouth continues at home tomorrow afternoon with a 4:00 pm match against Penn.
