CHATTANOOGA, Tn. - The Dartmouth softball team
dropped a close game to host Tennessee-Martin on the
second day of the Hospitality Classic. The BIg Green potted five runs in the top of the sixth but it was not enough as the Skyhawks took a 6-5 win.
In the first game of the day
sophomore centerfielder Megan Williams launched a first inning grand slam to
help propel UT-Martin victory.
Freshman Kelly
Mallery (Mukilteo, Wash.) led the Big Green in hitting, going 2-for-3 while Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.),
Ashley Gleason (Costa Mesa, Calif. ), Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) and Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif. ) each had singles.
UT-Martin
notched its grand slam on the sixth batter of the inning and then put one more
across in the bottom of the fifth. Dartmouth came right back with five runs in
the top of the sixth before the Skyhawks plated another in the bottom of that
frame.
Kolodziej started things off with a single to the shortstop before Gleason doubled to center field. With one out Alyssa Parker singled to left field scoring one. Mallery was the next Dartmouth batter as she continued the hitting with a single to center, scoring Gleason. With two outs Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y. ) reached on an error scoring two. Despite a single by Yee the Big Green was unable to bring anymore runs in.
The Big Green scored five on seven hits while UT-Martin had six
on eight hits. Devin Lindsay (Whittier, Calif.) started her first collegiate game, going 5.1 innings with three stikeouts. Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) came on in relief and with a runner on she got a strikeout and ground out to end the inning. Paji Lintz went the complete game for the Skyhawks with three earned runs and three strikeouts.
