? Dartmouth's
Tim Wunderlich (Westmister, Md.) won the men's heptathlon for the second time
in his career at day two of the 40th Dartmouth Relays. In all four of his
appearances, he finished either first or second in the event at the Relays.
Wunderlich trailed Justin Benjaminson of Northeastern by six
points entering the last day of competition. He defeated Benjaminson 4837
points to 4466, while Dartmouth freshman Bob
Contuzzi (Northampton, Mass.) finished in third place with 4351
points.
In high school action, George Chambers of Arch Curly High School (Baltimore,
Md.) set a new meet record in the boys' 300-meter
dash, previously held by David Kennedy (Lamoille,
Vt.), with a time of 34:92.
Chambers swept both sprint events with a time of 6.61 in the 55-meter dash.
Julie Labonte (St.
Justine, Quebec) set
a new Dartmouth Relays record in the girls' shot put. Labonte's throw of 15.67
meters (51 feet, 5 inches) broke the previous mark of 49 feet, 5 inches held by
Laura Gerraughty (Nashua, N.H.). Julia Westover, a senior from Lebanon High School, finished fourth in the
event with a throw of 11.38 meters (37 feet, 4 inches).
Andrew Springer (Westerly
High School, Westerly, R.I.) qualified for the Millrose Games
with a one-mile run in 4:16.73. The Millrose Games, the oldest invitational
indoor track and field event in the United States,
will be held January 30 in Madison
Square Garden.
Senior Garret Finn of Lebanon won the boys' triple jump with
a jump of 13.7 meters (44 feet, 11 1/4 inches), while Lebanon senior
Dominic Filiano won the boys' shot put with a throw of 17.33 meters (56 feet,
10 inches). Hanover's
Luc Amdahl finished third in the boys' unseeded mile, finishing with a time of
4:39.29.
Bishop Hendricken of Rhode
Island was the overall team winner in the boys' competition
with 46.33 points, while Shenendehowa High School of New York took home the
girls' title with 47 points.
The men's and women's college teams take to the track
tomorrow as the final day of the Dartmouth Relays begin at 8 a.m. at Leverone
Field House.
