NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? The Dartmouth women's track and field team opened its 2009 Ivy League schedule with a second-place finish at Yale as the Big Green scored 53.5 points, just five points behind the Bulldogs on Sunday.
Yale won the meet with a total of 58.5 points with Dartmouth taking second, followed by Columbia at 49 points.
Senior Emily Daly (Hopkinton, Mass.) took two first-place finishes in the weight throw and shot put. She tossed the weight 17.32m, while throwing the shot put 13.31m. Senior Karen Woolley (Herndon, Va.) also brought home wins in the 60-meter hurdles and in the long jump. She crossed the line with a time of 9.09 in the hurdles and followed that with a win in the long jump at 5.13m. Senior Natalie Todd-Zebell (Portland, Ore.) got her final campaign off to a good start with a win in the pole vault as she vaulted 3.80m.
Dartmouth also had its fair share of second place finishers. In the mile run, senior Caitlin Cunningham (Simsbury, Conn.) crossed the line in second with a time of 5:07.13, while freshman Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) finished in the second spot in the 800m with a time of 2:18.60. In the same event, sophomore Lauren Campfield (Temecula, Calif.) took third with a run of 2:22.15. The 4 x 800 meter relay also took second with a time of 9:31.47.
In the 3000 meters, freshman Elizabeth Short (North Reading, Mass.) finished in second with a time of 1013.26, while junior Lauren LaDolcetta (West Windsor, N.J.) jumped into second spot in the triple jump at 10.54m. Freshman Rocco Pallin (Kenosha, Wis.) also had a good day in jumps with second place finish in the high jump and third in the long jump.
Sophomore Alexandra Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) got her season off to a good start with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles and senior Marcy Van Arnam (Syracuse, N.Y.) also took the third spot in her event, which was the 1000 meter run, with a time of 3:03.40.
In addition to Daly's throws in the field events, sophomore Jaclyn Wypler (Ridgewood, N.J.) finished in third in the weight throw with a toss of 13.4m, while freshman Anna Niedbala (Palermo, Maine) brought home a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 10.74 in her first Ivy League meet.
Dartmouth will be back in action this coming weekend at the Terrier Classic beginning on Saturday at Boston University.
